In this hands-on session, pupils help plan to move one of the museum's display objects. Working together they solve a series of maths-related problems, culminating in a removal truck coding challenge.
Location: National Museum of Flight, East Fortune, East Lothian
Suitable for: P3 - P7
Dates: 24 & 25 September 2025 (also in January, March & May 2026)
Times: 10:15am & 11:45am
Duration: 60 minutes each
Session format:
Pupils will be taken to look at Concorde, before heading to the Education Centre to help us work out how best to move it.
Working in groups of four pupils will:
- Discuss the steps that need to be taken when planning to move such a large and valuable object
- Collaborate on a series of maths related activities which involve weighing, measuring and building models with Lego
- Finish the session with our very popular removal truck coding challenge
This workshop is perfect for team building and can act as a rich, holistic assessment tool. We like to reveal to the pupils at the end of the session that they have been doing maths all along, so you may like to focus on the team challenge aspects of the workshop when describing it to your class.
