Thursday, October 2, 2025 is International Wrongful Conviction Day.
"Injustice in Our Own Backward" will focus on wrongful conviction in the Bloomington-Normal area. Multiple people have been exonerated in this part of the state and some still fight to prove their innocence to seek release.
Each session will include guest speakers and panelists. Each session will also include time for questions from the audience.

This event is free and open to the community. Advanced tickets/seating not required. Attendees may attend both sessions, or choose one. Some topics discussed may be sensitive, so discretion is advised.
Local organizations will be present in the atrium throughout the morning providing free information on services and programming relevant to social services, re-entry, and mental health.
This event is being funded through LASS Innovation Grant money and is being sponsored by Heartland Community College Criminal Justice Students.
