First, join us on October 9th to sculpt your piece. We'll provide guidance on how to create seasonal items like a pumpkin, a jack-o'-lantern, or a leaf bowl.
Next, come back on October 18th to experience the exciting Raku firing process firsthand, or let the Art Zone team fire your finished sculpture for you!
This special two-part event is open to ages 18 and up. Price includes both days.
Raku ceramics involve a fast-firing process where glazed pieces are pulled from a hot kiln and placed into combustibles like sawdust or newspaper. This "reduction" creates a smoky, carbon-rich environment that pulls oxygen from the glaze, resulting in unique metallic and iridescent finishes. The technique, originating in Japan for tea bowls, was expanded by American ceramist Paul Soldner, allowing for vibrant, unpredictable outcomes that are a hallmark of the art.
