Artist Biography:
Pianist Mana Tokuno has received widespread acclaim for her sensitive and insightful interpretations and her brilliant virtuosity. Known for bringing a vast array of styles vividly to life, she has appeared at major venues in her native Japan and across the United States, including Carnegie Hall, CAMI Hall, Boston’s Symphony Hall, and Jordan Hall, as well as in solo performances in Romania, Italy, France, Germany, and Austria.
Her principal teachers include Midori Tanabe (Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music) and Victor Rosenbaum (New England Conservatory), where she earned her Master of Music and Graduate Diploma in Collaborative Piano. She has also studied with Daniel Barenboim and Leon Fleisher at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Institute.
A dedicated teacher, Mana has served on the faculty of Phillips Academy, Andover, and currently teaches at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School in Boston and the Cremona International Music Academy in Italy.
In January 2021, she launched Not-an-Ordinary Music Theory, an online music theory class for students of all levels and instruments, which focuses on “graphic score leading” and analysis of composers’ intentions and musical dramas.
