MORE INFO:
Native seeds, such as milkweed, Black-eyed Susan, and Prairie dropseed, are planted in mini-greenhouses during the months of January and February. They are placed outside in the sun and snow where the elements of winter will break the seed dormancy. This encourages the seeds to sprout in the spring.
The young seedlings should be ready to transplant into your garden when the outside temperatures stay consistently warm.
