Class Details!
In this beginner friendly class students will learn the basics of shibori dyeing.
Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique used on textiles to creates patterns that spread across the fabric. We will learn the history of Shibori dyeing while experimenting with folding, twisting, binding, and tying fabric to create unique resist patterns.
Students will leave the class with a beautiful, hand-dyed piece of cotton fabric that will be suitable for framing or for using to embellish other textiles. *If you are also taking the Sashiko class you will have the option of using your shibori dyed fabric for stitching as well.
Shibori is traditionally done with indigo dye, however due to the time involved in processing indigo dye, in this class we will use blue fabric dye. We will still cover the same techniques used in traditional Shibori and its history.
