Join us for a day of hunting and fishing activities and talks at Little Buffalo! Join local enthusiasts as they share information and training about everything hunting and fishing related. Fun for the whole family, and no cost! More details will come soon. Below are some of the programs we will be doing!
Bird Dog Hunting - Beyond the thrill of the hunt, lies the profound connection with a bird dog. Imagine crisp mornings in the field, the silence broken only by the rustle of leaves as your tireless companion works the cover, nose to the ground. Their unwavering focus and unwavering spirit will guide you to hidden coveys, their body language a language understood by instinct. When a bird flushes, the adrenaline surges, but the true reward is the retrieve, a testament to the powerful bond and trust forged between hunter and dog. Bird dog hunting isn't just about the harvest; it's about the shared passion, the companionship, and the indelible memories created with your four-legged hunting partner.
Trapping & Furbearers – At the trappers table we will cover basic knowledge of rules and regulations of trapping, fur identification, setting some traps, and showing and explaining legal traps. We will discuss how to find places to hunt and trap fur bearing mammals, as well as additional opportunities to learn more with the PA Trappers Association.
Archery - Join us, as we develop the basics of archery as a sport! Lean how to safely shoot a bow from a NASP certified archery instructor, and maybe pick up a new hobby. You don’t need to hunt to enjoy archery as a sport, and we will give you tips and places to continue your education in our area.
Bass Fishing - Bass are often considered the number one game fish in North America, as well as in PA. Of course trout get the most attention in April, but bass fishing can be great throughout much of the year. Some areas though, such as here at Holman Lake, fish can become accustomed to anglers trying to reel them in, so it can be harder to pull in those trophy fish. Mimics Bait Company will be here to show you some samples of lures and lure types to trick even the smartest bass, and provide some tips and tricks to get you more fish. *If you want to actively fish, a regular fishing license is required*.
Falconry – An ancient tradition that spans thousands of years, falconry is still considered a type of hunting available today. Anyone can get involved, but it takes time working under an apprenticeship. Once you have a bird, you must still follow local seasons and regulations. Learn from a local falconer what it takes to get into the sport, what you can hunt with birds, and why some of our wild raptors are declining. Live birds will be available to view and demonstrate flying.
