This year marks the fourth anniversary of the King Park Christmas Tree in honor of my older special needs brother Willie Olechnowicz that passed away unexpectedly from a severe stroke, a month shy of his 64 & the passing of my mother in November from dementia also a month shy of her 88th birthday, Mr. Jack Kane 90 & my cousin Shawn Olechnowicz at the age of 46 in June from a fall off the ladder in a house that he was building!
Even though the first two years was in memory of him and others that have passed.
I've decided to have it as a local community tree.
I strongly encourage anyone to bring an ornament to hang on the tree!
The first year 50 ornaments were donated most of them were made by the clients at the James L. Maher Center in Middletown.
The second year about 125 and last years count trippled to 200.
This year the tree will be up on the 1st as to have people freely hang ornaments on the tree as usual.
I've been wanting to have a Christmas tree in that location for at least 10 years!
My goal is to have an organization or local business be willing to donate so much.
The actual lighting will take place on Monday, December 8th with a reason date on Tuesday, December 9th from 5:30-6:30.
