8 week series • Free • All Ages Welcome - Perfect for Beginners!
This class will teach beginner signers the foundational elements of ASL and deaf culture, including the manual alphabet, numbers, essential phrases, basic vocabulary (colors, family, animals, emotions, etc.), fundamental sentence structure, and proper etiquette for interacting with deaf individuals.
The class is being taught by a local community member fluent in ASL and involved within the deaf community. She recently moved here from NJ and has been a part of the deaf community in central NJ for over 10+ years. While she is not a certified interpreter, she does have a BA degree with a minor in Education, experience teaching/ leading a wide variety of community workshops, and has taken multiple ASL and deaf studies courses over the years. The classes being offered here at the library are introductory only, with most resources being shown from Bill Vicars and Lifeprint.
