Artist Statement
Gwendolin is a Newcastle based painter working from her studio in Mayfield NSW
Mark making and gestural drawing as much as actual painting is what I love to do. I use SOFT PASTEL in my work, as it is a drawing medium. Soft pastels have a brilliance and beauty unique to the medium, and one stroke of colour inspires the next. My subject matter is chosen based on my personal experiences in nature and the vivid memories of colours that have left a lasting impression on me.

My technique involves layering and expressive mark making, resulting in artworks that are multi-dimensional and unique. My artistic journey has allowed me to hone my skills and develop a style that is my own.
My goal as an artist is to convey the breathtaking beauty of nature in a way that is both captivating and emotional. It is my hope that through my art, viewers can experience the same sense of connection to the natural world that inspires me every day.

BFA PSA ASMA
I am an exhibiting Member of the Pastel Society of Australia the Pastel Society of Victoria and the Australian Society of Maritime Artists.
I completed a degree in Fine Art with a major in painting at Newcastle University in 2001.
My artistic techniques and subject matter are quite diverse, reflecting my early training in commercial design.

Artist Statement

Women I know, Farm Girls & Painted Ladies

A series of paintings based on women depicted alongside birds and animals.
The presence of animals alongside women signifies a profound connection with nature. It suggests an understanding that humans are not separate from the natural world but rather an integral part of it. This symbolism reflects themes of harmony, balance, and reverence for the environment.
Painting women with animals often serves as a celebration of femininity and its inherent strength. The animals chosen, whether majestic or delicate, embody qualities such as power, grace, and resilience, echoing the diverse facets of womanhood. This representation underscores the notion that femininity is not only beautiful but also formidable.
Beyond the physical realm, the depiction of women with animals delves into spiritual themes. Birds, for instance, are frequently associated with freedom, enlightenment, and transcendence across various cultures.
Additionally, animals in art have long been linked to notions of protection and guidance. Whether portrayed as guardians or companions, they offer solace, wisdom, and support to the women depicted.

Closes 18th October.
