Britpop before Britpop had a name. The Real People helped shape the soundtrack of the ‘90s — and now they’re bringing the stories, the swagger, and the songs to Newcastle.

Formed in Liverpool by brothers Tony and Chris Griffiths, The Real People were laying the groundwork long before Oasis hit the airwaves. Their debut album dropped in ’89, and soon after they were touring the world, sharing stages with David Bowie, The Pixies, Inspiral Carpets, and more — turning heads with tracks like Window Pane and Open Up Your Mind.

But their legacy didn’t stop there.

It was in their studio that a little-known band called Oasis found their sound — recording the now-iconic Live Demonstration tape. Tony added backing vocals on Supersonic. Chris co-wrote Rockin’ Chair. The Real People’s fingerprints are all over the Britpop movement.

Now, they’re hitting the road for a rare, intimate tour — stripped back, full of stories, and packed with indie anthems. Don’t miss your chance to catch a true piece of music history at The Newgate Social.
