About this Event

Changing the narrative on hiring people with convictions
Wednesday 1 October, 3.30pm – 5.45pm
Free, booking essential
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Hiring people with convictions can offer many benefits, like reducing repeat offending and expanding the talent pool, but there are several barriers, legal, social, and organizational, that often get in the way.

Join the Ministry of Justice, The Recruitment Junction and Opencast for an open and free-flowing panel discussion around how hiring managers and HR and people teams can make changes to open up more opportunities for people with convictions.

Panel
  • Beverley Brooks, Founder, The Recruitment Junction
  • Laura Smith, Network Regional Employment Broker at New Futures Network, Ministry of Justice
  • Cate Kalson, Chief People and Operations Officer, Opencast
  • Moderated by Laura Shuttleworth, Client Relationship Director, Opencast

We will explore:

  • Employer bias and stigma
  • Regulatory barriers and societal challenges
  • Company policy restrictions and opportunities for change
  • How to influence business leaders to unlock the benefits of recruiting people from these backgrounds.

This event is perfect for business leaders, HR and people teams and those in DEI, and will invite views and questions from audience members so you can raise the topics you’d like to address. We aim to inform and inspire attendees to adopt a more open mind and drive the cultural change needed to give people a second chance.
