We are having a lunch time concert at St. Anna’s Chapel on September 4th at 12:15. The concert is “ pay as you will” and feature a new a cappella group called The Blue Jays. The title of the program is “ Saints Sinners, Lovers and Fools”
Group Bio: The Blue Jays comprise of classically trained singers who each graduated from the Longy School of Music of Bard College. They include Carlo Bunyi (MM '21, MM/ME '22), Cameron Dobson (MM '19), Cristina Evans (MM '21), and Lauren Florek (MM '22). Florek and Bunyi co-founded Duo Filipino, an ensemble committed to sharing Filipino culture and history through Filipino classical music. In addition to singing tenor, Dobson is a classically-trained mezzo-sopranist countertenor. Evans periodically accompanies herself on an eight course Renaissance lute.
The Blue Jays debuted at the Peabody Essex Museum's Music in the Atrium series as a nod to the temporary exhibition Saints, Sinners, Lovers, and Fools: 300 Years of Flemish Masterworks. The Blue Jays was founded to share sixteenth century unaccompanied polyphonic music from the European Renaissance featuring works from Orlando de Lassus, Josquin des Prez, and Thomas Crecquillon among others.
The program will consist of a series of four part polyphonic chansons from various composers in the Franco-Flemish region during the height of the European Renaissance. The themes of the pieces range from jubilant to unreciprocated love. This theme of courtly love originated during the Middle Ages and persisted into the poetry of sixteenth century writers
