A collage of various artworks displayed in a grid format, featuring pieces from artists Emma Clifton-Brown, Jim Crockatt, Shirley Eccles, Pam Hardman, Sydney Klugman, Lisa Mounteer-Watson, Trish Roberts, and Gavin Wilkinson.
Talking Heads is a group of local artists who meet once a month bringing a piece of work to discuss and reflect upon. They are currently doing a sketchbook exchange, each artist with its own theme and they are basing this exhibition in ‘Response’ to this exchange of themes and ideas. See artists details below.

Gavin Wilkinson
My main practice is with sculpture/3D and photography, and much of my work reflects the philosophy of the Arte Povera experimenters.
I also draw and illustrate as a means of exploring and better understanding the contemporary world of human interaction.

Sydney Klugman
Today Sydney says : “I paint every day, And to paraphrase Picasso, ‘I don’t seek; I find’. For me it’s about forever expressing my own voice; a kind of rediscovery,
I consider there’s no difference between abstraction and figurative art: My art explores my life experiences, looking beyond the surfaces”.

Lisa Mounteer Watson
My paintings represent a sense of a certain ebb and flow to our lives which frequently goes undetected in our thoughts, or in our physical environment. So, for example, we often make choices which have unintended consequences, as if some unseen hand is pointing us in a direction which is totally different to the one we are following.

For me, my art is an observatory, a place to explore those invisible energies which shaped our past, which influence the present, and which mould the future. We are but fragments in a universe of so many other fragments, all forming part of an invisible, yet constantly pulsating whole.

I try simply to draw upon those energies to bring some of these fluctuating elements together to illustrate at least part of that whole. In doing this, I often allow the paint to flow where I hadn’t intended it to, so that the canvas begins to take on a life of its own. It is as though communication is taking place between artist and canvas, allowing figures, features and spaces to emerge from the unspoken dialogue.

Shirley Eccles
I am captivated by the unique qualities of different media, particularly glass, whose fragility and sensitivity I use to explore themes of memory, time, and personal experience. My practice is driven by the emotional resonance of materials and the discovery that comes from working with the unknown.
I view glass as a versatile medium—whether in Conceptual Art, Installations, or Applied Arts. Each piece demands its own technique, allowing the material to reflect the deeper meaning within my work.

Trish Roberts
I am a printmaker and mixed media artist. My work responds to observations from life, often taking inspiration from the natural world. I am always excited by experimenting with new techniques and different forms of art making and I am currently investigation the possibilities of creating new work from waste packaging..

Pam Hardman
Using drawing and printmaking, I like to work in layers and experiment with a multi-process approach. My interests are in exploring textures, rhythms, traces of time and personal experiences to capture an essence, a moment in time, a feeling and connection to our natural environment.

Jim Crockatt
I am an artisan of wood in all its varied and exhilarating ways that it presents itself.
I turn bowls, construct furniture, conceive and make sculptures, design and make wall tableaux. Pretty well anything that takes my fancy in the moment, where ever my hands take me, I duly follow in apprehensive but excited expectation.

Emma Clifton Brown
Inspired by the evocative power of music, this collection of drawings by Emma Clifton-Brown delves into the enigmatic realm beyond our immediate perception, hinting at unseen dimensions and untapped potential within reality. Through the act of drawing, Emma charts the contours of both internal and external landscapes, investigating the interplay between them. Her artistic process, catalysed by musical inspiration, explores themes of journey and the crossing of boundaries, often employing light as a tool to sculpt atmosphere, elicit profound emotions, and suggest a sense of the spiritual that transcends the tangible world.
