Music was abundant, apartments were cheap, and the venues of the East Village gave artists a chance to play. Some of them became world famous. We’ll visit over ten sites where this musical and artistic history was made. Stand where your favorite album covers were photographed. We’ll discuss how the “scene” in NYC in the mid-70's opened doors, and allowed for an explosion of creative energy and drive. It wasn’t just the dingy clubs on the Bowery, such as CBGB, that allowed this to happen; there were economic factors as well. Who were the music empresarios who discovered our favorite artists and helped catapult them to worldwide fame? It all happened HERE in the late 60's and early 70's. Explore the careers of The New York Dolls, The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, The Who and Jimi Hendrix. Learn how this neighborhood and these venues helped them establish their artistic reputation and followings. Find out about some of the many, many, lesser known characters who were on the scene and didn’t become quite as famous, but were just as talented.
