For the past 11 years, the African American Policy Forum and the #SayHerName Mothers Network have worked to bring justice and visibility to Black women, girls, and femmes whose lives were stolen by state-sanctioned violence.
This fundraiser and annual gathering on December 8th is an evening of artivism, storytelling, and ritual — honoring those lost and reimagining the lives that should have been. Join AAPF, emcee and Tony Award winning actor Kara Young, and an incredible group of artists to present a staged reading of the play, #SayHerName: The Lives That Should Have Been in New York City.
MORE ABOUT THE PLAY
Originally debuted at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, CA, the play is based on the interviews with our #SayHerName Mothers’ Network participants and invites us to reimagine the lives of Black women, girls and femmes in an alternative realm in which their deaths never happened. As the campaign has grown over the years, this performance seeks to capture the ever growing dynamic of what it means to exist in a reality in which your loved ones can be snatched from you without public outcry and legal justice while engaging art to activate our imagination toward new realities.
Show Runtime: 90 minutes to be followed by a Panel with Kimberle Crenshaw and members of the #SayHerName Mothers Network
Please note that this event is in-person and there will not be a livestream or YouTube recording of this event.
