Mass Timber Tipping Point
The Mass Timber Tipping Point was a two-year project led by Architecture 2030 and Pilot Projects that involved a collaboration with numerous North American architectural and engineering firms, and was supported by grants from the US Forest Service and US Endowment for Forestry and Communities.
Architecture and engineering firms around the world are seeking ways to simultaneously reduce embodied carbon in buildings while meeting the increasing demand for high performance and aesthetics. Mass timber offers a compelling solution. Through extensive research with architecture and structural engineering practitioners across the continent, this report identifies the critical challenges limiting mass timber adoption and provides actionable strategies to tip the balance towards widespread use.
AIA 2030 Commitment By the Numbers and Beyond the Numbers
Since 2009, participants in the AIA’s 2030 Commitment have reported the performance of their firms’ portfolios over each calendar year. The data, collected via the Design Data Exchange (DDx), includes building type, area, baseline energy performance, and predicted energy performance. AIA tracks this annual performance in a yearly annual report, 2030 By the Numbers. Join us as we explore the data for Reporting Year 2024 at NY Climate Week.
