🎤 Speaker: Political Scientist, Dr. Andrea Jones-Rooy

Is it possible to change someone's mind about politics? Join Dr. Andrea Jones-Rooy for an insightful exploration into political beliefs, their origins, and the challenges of altering them. While political views are deeply held and stubborn, there is potential to shift perspectives and inspire meaningful conversations.

In this three-part lecture, we will first define political beliefs and examine their roots, then review political scientists' efforts to determine effective strategies for changing minds. Finally, Dr. Jones-Rooy will share practical tips you can implement to influence discussions on the issues that matter most to you. However, be prepared for the hardest part: changing others’ minds requires a willingness to reflect on and possibly change your own beliefs.

Dr. Andrea Jones-Rooy is a data and political scientist dedicated to improving data literacy and facilitating citizen-led quantitative research. Formerly a professor at NYU, she now directs the Institute for Thoughtful Quantification and hosts the podcast Behind the Data. When not engaged in academic pursuits, she performs standup comedy and circus arts.
