About this Event

For non-Columbia affiliates, registration is required to access the Morningside campus. After registering you will receive an email with a QR code that must be presented along with a government-issued ID (your name must match exactly the name registered for the event) at either the 116th Street & Broadway or 116th Street & Amsterdam gates for entry. Please register using a unique email address (one email address per registrant) by 4:00pm on Nov. 4 for campus access.

Names will be submitted for QR codes 1-2 days prior to the event. Registrants will receive an email from CU Guest Access with the QR code before or on the day of the event. NOTE: You cannot access campus using the QR code from Eventbrite.

Speakers: Four representatives of the Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technologies (DSET)

Moderator: Andrew J. Nathan, Class of 1919 Professor of Political Science, Department of Political Science, Columbia University

Experts from the Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technologies (DSET) will give presentations on Taiwan’s economic security, national security, democratic governance, and energy resilience; various dimensions of Taiwan’s vulnerabilities in the face of PRC pressure and policy options to increase societal resilience, as seen by a government funded think tank.

DSET is a think tank established in October 2023 under the National Science and Technology Council. DSET’s research agenda is aimed at addressing techno-geopolitical challenges facing Taiwan. Its mission is to advise the Taiwanese government and public through report publications and international forums while developing a Track 1.5 think tank diplomacy to facilitate international cooperation with Taiwan. DSET has 4 research programs; Economic Security, Democratic Governance, National Security, and Energy Security & Climate Resilience.

This event is part of the Andrew J. Nathan Taiwan Lecture Series and is hosted by the Weatherhead East Asian Institute.
