How Will Zohran Govern?
A conversation with Chi Ossé, Cea Weaver, and J.W. Mason

About this Event

Join Dissent at the Verso office for a discussion with City Council Member Chi Ossé, tenant organizer Cea Weaver, and economist J.W. Mason about how Zohran Mamdani can deliver on his agenda as mayor of New York.

Chi Ossé is the Council Member for New York City’s 36th District, representing Bedford-Stuyvesant and North Crown Heights. He entered politics as an organizer and prominent figure in the Black Lives Matter movement. At 23 years old, Ossé was elected in 2021 as the youngest member of this Council and its only Gen-Z member. Last year, he passed Intro 360, the Fairness in Apartment Rental Expenses (FARE) Act. He is a leader in New York City progressive politics and is at the forefront of new media and communications.

Cea Weaver is the Executive Director of Housing Justice for All and the New York State Tenant Bloc, sibling organizations that work together to strengthen tenant organization, advocate pro-tenant legislation, and elect tenants and their allies to public office in New York. She has worked as an organizer, a researcher, and campaign strategist in New York housing policy for over a decade, running and winning campaigns to expand rent control, pass good cause eviction, and invest in affordable housing in New York. She is an advisor on housing policy to Zohran Mamdani.

J. W. Mason is associate professor of economics at John Jay College of the City University of New York, and helps lead John Jay's MA program in heterodox economics. He is a senior fellow at the Groundwork Collaborative. His book Against Money, coauthored with Arjun Jayadev, will be published by University of Chicago Press in early 2026. He wrote about .
