The Bandhas: Yoga from the Inside Out with Joy Meade

Translated as “locks,” the bandhas are muscle groupings that allow us to stabilize from deep within. Although the translation “lock” brings up the image of stopping or holding, the bandhas create a subtle network that allows us to direct blood flow and energy with greater vigor. The bandhas can bring greater stability to our Asana practice, but they can also provide a way to harness energy, improve focus and concentration, and even improve circulation and vital organ function. In this workshop we will discuss the major and minor bandhas and the benefits of integrating them into our practice. Through a movement practice we will explore the stabilizing action of the bandhas in our Asana, and devote time to building our awareness of the subtle action required to engage them, yoga from the inside, out!
