What makes our pumpkins special?
Our pumpkins come all the way from the Navajo Reservation in Farmington, New Mexico. Our pumpkin supplier leases the land and grows over 28 varieties of pumpkins, gourds, and decorative corn on over 2000 acres, in cooperation with the Navajo Cultural Products Industry (NAPI). The pumpkin patch employs over 1000 Native Americans during the peak harvest months of September and October. Once the pumpkins arrive in New Orleans they are unloaded by hand, by volunteers and part of the proceeds from the patch support the Program of Hope Homeless Outreach program that operates in the Firs Pres sanctuary every Wednesday morning. The pumpkins are provided on consignment - churches only pay for the pumpkins they sell, ensuring that the churches never take a loss on the patch. Leftover pumpkins are composted or donated.
