Join us on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 5:30pm to 8pm at St. Roch Community Church (1738 St. Roch Avenue) for a discussion and panel on short-term rentals, their impact on the housing landscape, and impact on local politics. This event will feature the critically acclaimed researcher and professor, Luke Yates, author of “Platform Politics: Corporate Power, Grassroots Movements, and the Sharing Economy” and professor at the University of Manchester in England. He will talk about the need for critical interventions into the way that “sharing economy apps” operate and how ordinary citizens can win against tech giants to protect their communities, culture, and housing.
After Professor Yates speaks, we’ll hear from a panel regarding their perspectives on what to do about the housing crisis. Panel participants include:
- Mrs. Amy Stelly, an award winning urban planner, a STRONG coalition member and native New Orleanian from the Treme.
- Ms. Gloria, a tenant leader and gardener at ArtSpace Bell School.
- Angela Owczarek, Jane Place's Advocacy and Programs Director and a longtime activist and organizer on issues impacting "unhoused" communities.
A free dinner will be provided for attendees and afterwards we will do an informal cash bar cocktail hour at a local, nearby bar (location of bar is t.b.a.). To secure a seat for you to attend, please fill out the registration form today at
