New Mills Festival is thrilled to announce our second DRAW! competition. What’s it all about? Well, on Saturday 13 September, anyone and everyone is invited to come along and draw (or paint or collage) the lovely town of New Mills. The only rule, really, is that you make your drawing/sketch/painting on location. Which bit of the town would you choose draw? Would you like to sketch the hustle and bustle of Market Street, or paint something with a little more greenery, eg, in the Torrs?
This is a competition for all ages. See the categories below. Plus, there are prizes!
The winner of the main 1st prize will be chosen by YOU the public. Members of the public are invited to Rock Mill Centre to choose their favourite artwork, from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm.
So, think about what you’d like to draw, gather your materials, and come register at Rock Mill Centre on Saturday 14 September.

Just bring along your own art materials, paper, or canvas and capture the uniqueness of New Mills on the day.
The vibrant town of New Mills is set in an area of spectacular natural beauty, standing high above a natural rocky gorge known as The Torrs, where the River Sett joins the River Goyt. The town also possesses impressive viaducts and many historic buildings.
There is some street parking but much of it is for one hour only. There is public parking at Torr Top, Market Street, The Town Hall, and at Newtown and Central Stations. Charges apply.
There are several cafes throughout the town for essential breaks throughout the day.
Rules and summary of the day
Register at The Rock Mill Centre between 9:30 am and 11:00 am and get your paper or canvas officially stamped on the back.
Entry fee: £5 adults. Under 16s FREE.
Artwork may be in any media: acrylic, oils, watercolour, ink, pastels, collage, or any mixed media. Entries must be originals, done on the day. Prints will not be accepted.
Hand in your finished piece by 3:45 pm. Artists may frame their artwork or put in their own card mount.
Artwork MUST NOT be signed on the front but the artist may put a price on it if for sale.
Viewing and judging will take place between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm at the Rock Mill Centre and will be by public.

1st prize under 11 – Art materials goody bag and voucher
1st prize 11- 16 yrs – Art materials goody bag and voucher
Prize giving will be in The Rock Mill Centre at 5:00 pm.

New Mills Festival organisers may photograph competitors working on the day.
All copyright remains with the artist, unless otherwise assigned in writing.
In administering the competition, the organisers collect names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses.
Tickets to the main (adult) prize can be bought on the day. £5 to enter. Children’s competition is free.
