Talk 1: Beyond species counts; Talk 2: Eavesdropping on cryptic species - Birds Queensland meeting

Birds Queensland Monthly Meeting with Guest Speakers:

* Yee Lai – Beyond species counts: What global waterbird trends tell us about wetland health.
* Callan Alexander – Eavesdropping on cryptic species: Are there any Eastern Bristlebirds left in Queensland?

Wetlands support amazing waterbird diversity, but are we measuring their health correctly? Yee uses three decades of bird monitoring records to explore how bird communities are changing. By listening to what birds are really telling us, we might need to rethink how we protect these vital ecosystems.

Callan will outline some of the new technologies used to search for cryptic species in remote areas. He will give an overview of the Eastern Bristlebird monitoring project and an update on their status and habitat in Queensland. He will also discuss ways of applying these techniques to other species and projects.
