A collaboration of Delhi’s leading heritage walking community and Children learning journeys @DelhiByFoot Scholarsafaris and @HeritageForChildren, we bring forth unique hands-on walking tours/ workshops for young learners and their families.

Drishyakala: From Ravan's Village to Rama's Playground

A 4.5 hr long experience for the families during the festival of Navratri while we move from West Delhi to Old Delhi, exploring the essence of Ramayana.

Ramleela Fever is just around the corner and the 'Village' of Raavan and the 'Playground' of Lord Rama in Dilli calls you!!! Weeks before Dussehra "Raavan's Village" in Delhi is a hotbed of hectic activity as expert craftsmen toil to create nearly 100Ft giant mythological characters of Raavan, Meghnaad and Kumbhkaran from a mass of bamboo reeds, paper and cloth in varying shapes and sizes for celebrations of Dussehra.

Come! Celebrate the spirit of Dussehra with mythological stories rituals and practies of the master Raavan effigy makers of Delhi learning how these giant effigies made of paper & bamboo become the largest symbols of the proverbial "Victory of Good over Evil", when Rama lights an arrow and sets Raavan's effigy on fire...

Dabble in paper crafts and let the child in you and with your child in making a Ravan mask or effigy with paper, bamboo and strips of coloured papers!!

Then zoom into Old Delhi to enjoy the larger-than-life theatrical processions of the mythological epic 'Ramayana' , watch the Ramleela, and get a sneak peak backstage with artists who enact the costumed roles with your own VIP Passes.

Or let loose the child in you and relive childhood memories with rides in the Ramleela Fairs on a Giant Ferris-wheel Merry-go-rounds & many Fun-rides or eat from the various Ramleela Sattvik Food stalls (On direct payment).

NOTE: This is a two-location experience and travel between the two spots is using Delhi Metro only and paid directly by you (tickets/passes to be managed by participants) . Walk leaders and the participants are expected to travel together, since it is a complete packaged experience from effigy making to watching the performances.

HIGHLIGHTS:

1) See rows & rows of huge Raavan effigies of various colors & styles at "Raavan Baba's Village" and learn about his history and legacy!

2) Listen to the mythologies and hear craftsmen as they share experiences their superstitions rituals & the nuances of making Raavans.

3) Indulge in paper crafts of making a Ravan mask or effigy with paper, bamboo and strips of coloured papers!!

4) Watch Ramleela theatre with your own VIP Pass.

5) Get an Instagram shot with Ram Raavan and Hanuman as they pose with you!

The walk will be conducted in a mix of English and Hindi.
