It's the start of a new New Year's Day tradition.
Westwood Trail Runners will host its Day 1 Run at Westwood Park on Thursday, January 1. Meet at Big Oaks parking lot at 10 a.m. (Please note: the time is different than our weekly Saturday runs.) We will divide into groups based on skill levels and desired pace. Come for a mile or two or run the entire 10-mile loop that encircles Westwood Lake. We will have guides available to run with anyone new to Westwood's trail.
After the run, walk across the parking lot to the 7 Hills pavilion, where a nearby fire will blaze throughout the day. WTR will provide bottled water as well as hot water for making hot chocolate and coffee. Runners are welcome to bring a snack or fruit to share with others.
Westwood Mountain Bikers will hit the trail later in the day, and we hope to spend some time around the fire with them.
For those unfamiliar with Westwood's trail, it's a 10-mile loop, all single track, all dirt, mostly woods, with no killer hills but plenty of rollers. For trail runners, hikers, and mountain bikers, Westwood is a true gem.
Whatever your running goals for 2026, our Day 1 Run is the perfect way to start a new year. Mark your calendar and bring a friend. And, as always, feel free to join us for our regular group runs at 9 o'clock each Saturday at Westwood Park.
