Please join us for the first Unexpected Music of 2025, featuring Travels with Brindle, Jeff Angeley, and milkymaze!
Chelsea Spear has been a music critic, a show promoter, a college radio host, and a video director… but all she really wanted to do was start a band. Not long after learning to play the ukulele, she formed the bedroom recording project Travels with Brindle. Her melodic original songs and wry, poignant lyrics have attracted a growing audience at open mics and busking pitches in the Greater Boston area. Spear is inspired by lo-fi songwriters and jangle pop acts of the 1980s and ‘90s, and her work has been compared to the Marine Girls, the Raincoats, Courtney Barnett, and Liz Phair. In late 2024, she began a Sparks covers project with the September release of “Tryouts for the Human Race,” with a full album re-imagining of the art-rock band’s 1979 classic No. 1 In Heaven arriving in March 2025.

Jeff Angeley is a full-time music instructor, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist performer, & event organizer. He uses the many musical gadgets at his disposal and his broad experience playing multiple genres of music to make sure each performance is a unique concert experience. His performance at the Unexpected Music series will be a full set of original material that hasn't been performed publicly. Predominantly known as a string instrument performer, his performance will also be his first solo performance as a pianist predominantly.
Recording under the project title milkymaze, Maisy McVicar's music is not of this time, and possibly not of this terrestrial plane. Like a traveler through time and space, her music echoes the sentiments of a bygone era, lyrically reminiscent of turn of the century Dust Bowl Music and accentuated by haunting melodies and distant echoes that intertwine to create a sonic landscape that is both somber and spiritual, inspired by folk traditions and experimental sounds alike.
