New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center is pleased to announce the return of its Dock-u-mentary series, hosted in partnership with New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. Dock-u-mentaries is a free film series hosted at the National Park auditorium at 33 William Street in downtown New Bedford on every third Friday at 7:00pm from October through April. These films have explored a variety of themes and topics related to the commercial fishing industry and the working waterfront.
On October 17, FHC will be screening the film The Pearl of the Atlantic. Produced by the New Bedford Seafood Council, The Pearl of the Atlantic is a 1963 film showcasing New Bedford’s Atlantic sea scallop fleet and the boat-to-table process. This first film screening of the season is a special tie-in to FHC’s newest exhibit, Ceremonies & Celebrations, which explores the history of the New Bedford Scallop Festival, Working Waterfront Festival, Blessing of the Fleet, and Fishermen’s Memorial Service. Doors open at 6:30pm.
*In the event of a government shutdown and the National Park is closed, the film will be screened at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center (38 Bethel Street, New Bedford). Check out our website (fishingheritagecenter.org/calendar) or follow us on Facebook or Instagram for more updates
