On April 26th I get the chance to present two of my favorite writers in New Orleans, Benjamin Morris and Chuck Perkins. Please come out to Three Muses, 536 Frenchmen Street, on April 26th, from 2-4. There will be a brief open mic to start, followed by our features.
Short author bios to follow
A native of Mississippi, Benjamin Morris is the author of Coronary (Fitzgerald Letterpress, 2011), Hattiesburg, Mississippi: A History of the Hub City (Arcadia/History Press, 2014), and Ecotone (Antenna, 2017). He holds an MSc in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh, and among other honors has received a Pushcart nomination, the Academy of American Poets Prize from Duke University, and the Chancellor’s Medal for Poetry from the University of Cambridge, where he earned his Ph.D. The recipient of academic and creative fellowships from the Mississippi Arts Commission and Tulane University, his writing appears regularly in the United States and Europe. The Singing River is his first full collection. He lives in New Orleans.
Chuck Perkins is a poet and former marine. He was born and raised in
New Orleans, Louisiana. He’s a product of the city’s public school system.
Afterward, he attended Xavier University of Louisiana, where he received
a bachelor’s degree in business. He’s currently the owner of the performance venue Café Istanbul.
