Golf “Fore” Parkinson’s is a joint effort between the Russo family and the Light of Day Foundation.
"Eleven years ago my family was shocked to learn that our mom, Joan Russo, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. At the time, none of us knew anything about Parkinson's but we did know one thing... We knew that Mom was a fighter and she wasn’t going to let PD control her destiny. She educated herself about the disease and we followed her lead willing to do anything to help.
Did you know that Parkinson’s disease costs $25 billion a year in the US alone for treatment, social security payments and lost income?
Mom is our inspiration as she tenaciously fights her disease every day. There is no therapy she won’t try regardless of how difficult or dangerous it might be. Surgery, medication, exercise and even boxing are roads our brave mom travels. When she met Bob Benjamin, Parkinson’s patient and Light of Day Foundation founder, she knew she had met a fellow fighter. She felt at home. Like Bob, Joanie wanted to help others afflicted with this, so far incurable disease, to live a full and rewarding life.
So we have this benefit golf outing at the Jumping Brook Golf Club in Neptune on Columbus Day, October 9, 2023. And our beloved mom, Joan Russo, will be there cheering everyone on as she continues the battle of her life. Please join Joanie and Light of Day at this annual event and meet our remarkable mother and the wonderful Light of Day crew."
