Kia ora Whakatū, please join us this Saturday the 23rd August 10.30am in Tāhunanui on Rocks Road to honour the over 238 journalist killed in Gaza since October 2023. We are making some press vests, if you would like to help with this please go to the link our bio or below for instructions.
More journalists have been killed in Gaza than in the US civil war, both world wars, the Korean war, the Vietnam war, the wars in Yugoslavia and the US war in Afghanistan combined.
Last week Anas Al-Sharif, fondly known as the voice of Gaza and five other journalists that were with him, were assassinated in a journalist tent on the grounds of Al Shifa hospital. He warned us this would happen. We saw him being threatened. Western media lay the groundwork and subsequent justification for his murder. Gobbling up and spitting out every lie the Israeli propaganda machine churned out.
As award winning Palestinian journalist Daoud Kuttab said “Imagine a weather report where one source says, “It’s raining,” and another insists, “No, it’s sunny,” while everyone stands outside, soaked from the downpour. Gaza is that drenched truth, and yet much of the Western news media still feels obliged to quote the weatherman in Tel Aviv.”
Now Israel sets its target on the remaining journalists such as, Saleh Al-Jafarawi and Hind Khoudary, who have both been receiving threats.
Again they tell us.
Will they be met with silence?
Will our media continue to run cover for their colleagues killers?
Israel desires the world to be blind as it completes its destruction of Gaza and implements their final solution - the forced displacement of all Palestinians from Gaza. They’re trying to eliminate the witnesses.
We must hold our media accountable and demand better from them.
We must hold our government accountable and demand better from them.
We won’t be complicit.
Email and call our media and government. Keep the pressure on. Keep showing up. They might be happy hiding the truth but we won’t be. 🇵🇸
