Workshop description
Lose yourself in the delicious contrasts of belly dance. In this workshop, Rosina June will guide you through slow, slinky movements - juicy, grounded, and intoxicating - before shifting into playful accents and combinations that light up the music. You’ll explore how to melt into the music, then pop with precision, creating a dynamic performance style that’s both powerful and mesmerising.
We’ll finish by weaving everything together into a short set, so you leave not only with new techniques and combinations, but also the experience of embodying them in a complete piece. Expect an afternoon of artistry, musicality, and pure dance pleasure.
About REVEL REVEL community dance festival
A new community dance festival bringing our people together in a celebration of movement. Hosted at the iconic Pohara Hall, this inclusive, intergenerational festival invites everyone - from toddlers to elders to participate in a joyful weekend of dance, connection, and creativity.
Featuring a diverse lineup of daytime workshops taught by experienced local and visiting kaiako. Styles include Golden Dance for adults 65+, Contact Improvisation, Modern Jive, Balfolk, Belly Dance, Whanau Ceilidh, Kapa Haka, Contra Dance, Cuban Salsa, Brazilian Funk, Tango and live music. These workshops are designed to be accessible and engaging for all skill levels, abilities and age groups featuring mainly adult workshops on Saturday and a whanau day on Sunday followed by and evening of luscious latin moves.
REVEL REVEL also includes performances by our tamariki and rangatahi, celebrating their creativity and growth through dance.

Rooted in the traditions of Middle Eastern dance yet unafraid to step beyond them, Rosina June is a performer and teacher known for her creativity, storytelling, and captivating stage presence. With a deep respect for the cultural origins of belly dance, she brings authenticity to every movement while exploring the fusion space - blending her own artistic influences into the dance in ways that feel fresh and deeply personal.
Renowned for her musicality, Rosina has an intuitive ability to interpret and embody music, weaving rhythm and melody seamlessly into her movement. Whether performing a soulful traditional piece or crafting a bold fusion creation, her work invites audiences and students alike into a world where music, movement, and emotion are inseparable. Her teaching celebrates both technique and expression, encouraging dancers to refine their skills while discovering their unique voice within the art form.
