Critique Night with John Rufo

For our annual member critique, NAA welcomes artist John Rufo. We hope you can join us for an educational and engaging critique session of work by our members at the Needham Free Public Library on Tuesday, February 3 at 6:30pm.

Driven by an exploration of the places we inhabit and the objects we cherish, John Rufo creates mixed-media works that range from intimate 3-inch compositions to expansive 4-foot canvases. By layering oils, acrylics, charcoal, and collage, they "excavate" ideas to reveal the emotional resonance found in everyday landscapes and objects like mudflats or drinking vessels. Drawing inspiration from Chinese and Japanese classical poetry and the Taoist idea of constant change, John’s practice invites viewers to look closely at the marks we leave on the world and what it means to form deep bonds with our evolving environment.
