We, the Nazareth Area School District community, demand that Steve Brown retain his position as Drill Designer for the Nazareth Area HS Blue Eagle Marching Band.
On Tuesday, August 12th, the board tabled a vote on EPED hires, refusing to pass resolution XXX, because Lower Nazareth Township Supervisor, parent, and nearly 4-year Drill Designer for the marching band, Steve Brown, was on that list. Mr. Brown is being penalized for his position on the board of supervisors after a vote to deny the informal request of the school district to rezone land for a new elementary school. It is important to note that Mr. Brown was not present for the deciding vote, which passed 4-0.
Mr. Brown should not be punished simply for having a different opinion and performing his duties as Lower Nazareth Township Supervisor; moreover, a large reason the land was denied for rezoning was that it was deemed to be unsafe for a school structure after an independent review of the gas pipeline running underneath the property. This review was read in full at the August 13th Lower Township Supervisor meeting, confirming that the land is deemed unfit for a school.
Finally, if we allow the school board to refuse Mr. Brown's employment, it not only hurts the students of Nazareth Area High School who rely on Mr. Brown, but also sets a dangerous precedent that if anyone employed by the district has a difference of opinion, their employment is subject to punitive termination.
On August 26th at 7pm, please join us to DEMAND that the Nazareth Area School Board pass Resolution XXX in full, including Mr. Brown's part-time employment.
