About the event

Antje Duvekot and David Berkeley
Originally born in Germany and transplanted to the US as a young teen, Antje Duvekot began to hone her observational skills through a lens of biculturalism when she picked up a guitar during that move. Some years later, the confessional folk of Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco gave her license to share her observations, no matter how personal. Since her first emerging original songs, she has never let go of that tenet of vulnerability.

โ€œDuvekot has gotten hotter, faster than any local songwriter in recent memory. Her songs feel at once fresh faced and firmly rooted, driven by the whispery sensuality of her voice. She believes in the redemptive power of the shared secret; and is utterly unafraid to mine the darkest corners of her life for songs that turn fear into resilience and isolation into community.โ€ The Boston Globe

Antjeโ€™s five studio albums, including her latest, New Wild West, were produced by Mark Erelli, Seamus Egan of SOLAS, Richard Shindell, and Scott Petito, respectively, and feature support from Anais Mitchell, John Gorka, Lucy Kaplansky, Sean Mullins, Liz Longley, Mark Erelli, and Kris Delmhorst, among others.

Songwriter and author David Berkeley writes songs capable of both breaking and mending the heart. The San Francisco Chronicle calls him a โ€œmusical poet,โ€ and the New York Times praises his โ€œlustrous, melancholy voice with shades of Tim Buckley and Nick Drake.โ€ He was a guest on This American Life, and heโ€™s won many songwriting awards and honors including ASCAPs Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award. Berkeley has released six studio albums, one live album, and authored two books. His 2017 release was a never-before tried concept: a novella comprising ten intertwining stories and an album of ten accompanying songs (one for each story). And his 2018 EP contains some of his most relevant and powerful music yet, a set of political love songs called The Faded Red and Blue. Berkeley is back with his most intimate and poignant release yet, Oh Quiet World, written during the lockdown after his family escaped Spain due to Corona.

David Berkeleyโ€™s gift as a songwriter and storyteller is that he sees both the tragedy and comedy in life, managing to both reveal the sorrow and the blazing beauty at the heart of the human condition. Itโ€™s a duality that audiences experience at all of Berkeleyโ€™s shows as well, as he tells uproarious stories between cathartic songs.
