Octavius Choir sings a smorgasbord of magical melodies!
as we welcome the start of Spring and imagine enjoying al fresco activities. This idea is the theme of this concert – the program is a brilliant selection of songs, many evoking the pleasures of starlight, moonlight, new life – and yes – picnics!
You will enjoy jazz favourites like “Mr Sandman”, “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and “A Nightingale Sang…” and the inspired imagining of golden moonlight in Eric Whittaker’s “Lux Aurumque”
The beauty of the natural world is celebrated in an international selection; “Earth Song”, by American Frank Ticheli, traditional Irish songs “The Lark in the Clear Air” and "Londonderry Air” and as a special highlight, a new song by Hawkes’ Bay composer Stephen Lange: “Poipoia te Kakano” (nurture the seed and it will grow) speaks of the cyclic energy of rebirth, regeneration and resilience in nature, inspired by the spinning Apple Core sculpture in Hastings city. Octavius has sole performing rights for this composition during 2025. To finish the concert with a bit of fun and frivolity, the choir invites you to enjoy “The Teddy Bears Picnic”, but “Don’t Sit under the Apple Tree” and make sure you “Ain’t Misbehaving!”
Do come, and bring a friend or two!
