About HINOTORI

Since July 20 more than 15 artists from Japan and around the globe have gathered in Tokyo for a creative residency shaping this ambitious new performance together.

“Hinotori” (bird of fire) evokes Osamu Tezuka’s legendary manga while resonating with the universal symbol of the phoenix—a sign of rebirth and renewal. At its heart HINOTORI asks: What does it mean to be human in a chaotic and uncertain world? Through live music multilingual performance and a genre-defying approach Koike invites us into a space where boundaries of language culture and form dissolve.

Novelist Banana Yoshimoto writes:

“Koike’s world is always free and dynamic. No matter how chaotic the world turns people seem to burn with the joy of life. Coming to realize—Ah! This must be what humans are truly like!”

This premiere crowns a four-year journey of international collaboration with partners in Poland Malaysia and Brazil. Drawing inspiration from world literature mythology and Tezuka’s Hinotori the production offers a layered global performance that challenges convention while celebrating the shared human spirit.
