The Boston Mountain Heritage Society is excited to invite the community to a special program on December 13th, featuring Ozarks Alive's Kaitlyn McConnell. Kaitlyn will be sharing insights from her new book, The Ozarks Pie Project Diary, along with stories from her research into the rich culinary history of the Ozarks. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the event — a wonderful Christmas gift for anyone on your list who loves history, heritage, or a good homemade pie.
To celebrate the occasion, the Heritage Society will be hosting a free beans-and-cornbread lunch, followed by a dessert table. Community members are warmly encouraged to bake a pie or bring another dessert to share — a tribute to the long-standing Ozarks tradition of potlucks and a way to honor the home bakers who have shaped our communities for generations.
In “The Ozarks Pie Project Diary,” you’ll discover 48 amazing pie recipes gathered from vintage regional cookbooks. These recipes were lovingly tried and tested by Kaitlyn McConnell, who launched the Ozarks Pie Project in 2024 after diving deep into her collection of time-honored Ozarks cookbooks. Out of more than 100 recipes she baked, these 48 rose to the top as true standouts.
In addition to the recipes — organized into fruit, nut, and custard-and-cream categories — the 100-page, full-color cookbook is filled with photographs and heartfelt stories that show how pies and people have always had a way of bringing our communities together.
