The Shady World of Bryophytes

Easily overlooked due to their size, bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) play a critical role in ecosystems and serve as indicators of environmental conditions such as air and soil quality. Curtis Hansen, plant collections manager at the Auburn University Museum of Natural History, returns to the Gardens to discuss the characteristics used to distinguish these non-vascular plants from one another in the field. Registrants will learn about the evolution, reproduction, and unique ecological benefits of some of the oldest and smallest plants on earth as we walk through the gardens to find them.
