Join us on Saturday, August 23, 2025 for an afternoon at the Mt. Wilson Observatory. It's a beautiful drive and the view is stunning.
We'll meet up in the Observatory parking lot, have some lunch, then take in a special "astronomical" film screening.
Make it a day! Arrive in the morning and take the Observatory guided tour (optional) or walk the grounds and enjoy the views. You'll see just how close the fires came to the antennas, too!

3) Buy your parking pass (also available onsite)
- You will need a U.S. Forest Service Adventure Pass or an America the Beautiful pass to park at the Observatory.
- The $5/day Adventure pass may be purchased at the Cosmic Cafe or at many locations around Los Angeles before you head up.
On the day of the event:
1) Drive at your own pace to the Mt. Wilson Observatory.
- There are tons of places to pull off, take photos and allow other vehicles to pass.
- This is a popular route on the weekends, especially for motorcyclists, so drive with courtesy and caution.
2) Park and Picnic
- Arrive at 1pm (no later than 2pm).
- Park in the Main Parking Lot. Look for the Rivians!
- Buy your parking pass at the Cosmic Café, if you haven't already.
- Food is available at the Cosmic Cafe or bring your own.
3) Film Screening
- "Astronomical Short Films" with LA FilmForum at 3pm
- Tickets are $20. Purchase ahead of time to guarantee seating.

EXTRA CREDIT
If you'd like to take a tour of the Observatory, at 11am there is a 2-hour walking tour inside all 4 telescopes (including 2 solar telescopes). It's an excellent tour! And you'll have time afterwards to join us for lunch and the screening.
Tour tickets are $20 and can only be purchased at the Cosmic Café on the day of the event.
