RITA SAHAI CONCERT #4 OF THE JCA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL 2025
Rita Sahai is an award-winning Hindustani classical vocalist, composer, and educator whose performances transport audiences into the heart of India’s rich musical traditions. Born in Allahabad and trained from childhood in the romantic Benares Gharana, Rita went on to study with the legendary sarod maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, who honored her with the title Gayan Alankar—“Jewel of Music.”Renowned for her captivating voice and deeply emotive style, Rita has performed and toured internationally, from intimate concert halls to large festivals, collaborating with artists as diverse as Grammy-winner Béla Fleck and Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet. Her artistry bridges classical depth with contemporary creativity, earning her critical acclaim and a devoted following.As founder and director of the Vasundhara Choir, Rita composes innovative choral works that blend Hindustani classical traditions with global influences. Her album Jalaranjani – The Moods of Water won a Bronze Medal at the Global Music Awards. She also directs the Hindustani Vocal Ensemble at UC Davis, inspiring the next generation of musicians.With her luminous presence and musical mastery, Rita Sahai continues to enchant audiences worldwide—inviting listeners on a soul-stirring journey through the beauty, power, and grace of Indian classical music.

Rita will be joined by Mt Shasta local Anton Mizerak. Antonis a composer and multi-instrumentalist who plays tabla, harmonica, synthesizers and piano. Anton is literate in Sanskrit, with an M.A. in the History of Religions. He has an intimate understanding of Asian spiritual and musical traditions which he utilizes to create music that enriches and enlivens the listener.Anton lives and records in Mount Shasta, California, in a house and studio that he built himself. Anton's many recordings reflect his extensive travels, his love of the natural world, and his desire to impact the world in a positive way through music. Anton has been performing on piano and harmonica since 1968. In 1988 he began studying tabla (classical Indian drums) in Kathmandu, Nepal, with Homnath Upadhyaya. Much of Anton's music reflects his cross-cultural musical experimentation, combining harmonica and synthesizers with traditional Asian melodic and percussive instruments.
