In January 1826, a spirited crossroads known as "Mount Pleasant" officially incorporated as the Town of Mount Jackson. This January, we mark 200 years of resilience, growth, and neighborly connection.
To celebrate this milestone, the Town of Mount Jackson invites the community to the Official Bicentennial Kickoff on Saturday, January 24th, at 2:00 PM at Town Hall.
This isn’t just a celebration of a date on a calendar; it’s a celebration of the people who have and continue to make this a living, breathing, and vibrant community. As the United States also prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary in 2026, Mount Jackson stands as a proud example of the American spirit that has defined our nation for two and a half centuries.
A Legacy Built by Neighbors: Mount Jackson’s history is etched into the landscape, from the silent witness of the 1825 Union Church to the enduring spirit of the old Valley Turnpike. To honor these two centuries of stories, the Mt. Jackson Museum will showcase its landmark new book, "Mount Jackson, Virginia: Celebrating 200 Years of History." This book is a community labor of love, capturing the faces and voices of our neighbors through deep-dive research and personal interviews. It is the definitive archive of our first 200 years, ensuring our ancestors' stories are preserved even as we begin to write our own. The Mt. Jackson Museum will be open during the event, and the new book will be available for purchase throughout the day.
Partnering for a Vibrant Future: The Bicentennial year serves as a launchpad for the next century. Attendees at the January 24th kickoff will be the first to hear the exclusive announcement of the town’s 2026 events. These local celebrations will weave into the broader tapestry of the American250 commemorations taking place across Shenandoah County, Virginia, and the country. • Economic Vitality: Building on the MJ5 program and "The Nest" small business incubator to bridge our agricultural roots with modern entrepreneurship.
• Investing in the Core: Continued water line replacements and cemetery upgrades to ensure our town’s foundation is as strong as its spirit.
