Spirits Class - American Amaro

In any culture that invents distillation, the production of bitter, herbal liqueurs is almost a given, yet the genre most strongly associated with these particular liqueurs is the Italian amaro tradition. As amari have grown in popularity, producers have begun to imitate and expand on this classic Italian idea as well as drawing from the many bitter liqueur traditions around the world. American craft distilleries are at the forefront of this movement.

In this class, Evan Christie will lead you on an exploration of the latest and greatest in American amaro production. Expect bottles in classic styles like aperitivo and fernet as well as some that defy any traditional format. Many distillers will make use of local botanical richness to give their spirits a sense of terroir while others may take old and forgotten recipes and recreate historical spirits. Whatever they concoct, these American amari are sure to delight all fans of bitter, unusual, and interesting spirits.
