Last Sunday we continued with episode 3 of our new sermon series entitled Spiritual Discipline to Build Community. We learned that there are symbols that represent our spiritual discipline. The symbol of submission is the Cross of Christ. The Symbol of Solitude starts in the desert (where we face ourselves [temptation]) but ends in the garden (where we face God’s will [surrender]). And the symbol that represents THE DISCIPLINE OF SERVICE is a TOWEL! Jesus took off his outer garments and washed his
disciples’ feet after a full day of travel. During the message, we learned that Service means giving God Driven assistance to another in hiddenness.
And we must realize that just as Jesus was at The End of his ministry, there will be an end to our life as well! So, we must make every effort to serve. When we serve, we will surely face The Evil! Jesus faced the evil of Judas’ betrayal, Peter’s pride, and the task of cleaning 12 pairs of filthy feet. But we can be filled with hope because Jesus gave us The Example that leads to blessing: Serving with the towel! Service is, and always will be sacrificial & selfless! Thank God’ for Jesus’ towel!!!
Looking ahead to this Sunday, we will pause our Spiritual Discipline Series to bring us a special youth focused service titled:
And a Child Shall Lead Them
Whitney Houston sang a song that began with these words: I Believe the Children are our Future; teach them well and let them lead the way. This Sunday at the Rising, we plan to do just that!
