This is a biblically commanded act of remembrance, centered on God’s saving power, covenant faithfulness, and the transmission of faith from one generation to the next.
At the Seder, we retell the story of the Exodus using symbolic foods—unleavened bread (matzah), bitter herbs, wine, and others—each representing an aspect of suffering, deliverance, and hope. The meal follows a structured order (seder means “order”) designed to fulfill the biblical command to tell the story of God’s salvation as though each participant personally experienced it.
The Seder holds special significance because Jesus of Nazareth observed Passover. The Last Supper described in the Gospels is widely understood to have taken place in the context of a Passover meal.
• Exodus 12 & 13
• Leviticus 23
• Deuteronomy 16
Jesus’ words at the Last Supper—“Do this in remembrance of me”—echo the Passover command to remember, to tell, and to participate in the story of deliverance. Without Passover, the language and meaning of the Gospel narratives lose their original context.
We are excited to to honor this commandment with you and look forward to this wonderful evening in the Lord.
