Skills that Make Great Board Members

The Town of Cortlandt Planning Department invites you to this in-person education session geared towards local Planning and ZBA board members. If you are a member of your local land use board and are interested in brushing up on your skills while earning continuing education hours, please join us! This class is for both new and seasoned board members alike. Municipal planners and attorneys are also welcome to attend.

WHEN: Wednesday September 17th from 6:00-8:00pm (arrive 5:30-5:45 to sign in and grab some food)

WHERE: Hendrick Hudson Free Library (Children's Room, 1st floor), 185 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose NY

SPEAKERS: Staff from NYS DOS Local Government Training

COST & FOOD: Free! Wraps, salads, and cookies/beverages will be provided.

CREDITS: This course can be submitted to your municipality for 2 hours of continuing education credits (PB and ZBA members are required to complete at least 4 hrs/year)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Join us for an in-depth training session that will go beyond the basics, delving into the details of how to be a more effective land use board member.

Specific topics to be covered include board procedures and applicable laws to more practical matters, including conducting site visits, working with consultants, avoiding ex parte communications, and working with the public. How to build your technical knowledge and find assistance when needed, as well as utilizing the comprehensive plan for your decisions, will also be discussed.
