Conversation with Rick Eigenbrod -- Crossing Unexpected Thresholds

Thresholds shape every life. From our first cry to our unfolding future, we cross countless boundaries between what was, what is, and what will be—some chosen, some not, many unnoticed. And even the thresholds we intentionally invite can surprise us with disruption or unexpected consequences.

In this conversation, we’ll explore with Rick Eigenbrod the many kinds of passages that mark a life: between wanting and having; striving and arriving; “I did it” and “now what?”; between inherited stories and the ones that feel authentically ours. Together, we’ll consider how both invited and uninvited thresholds can unsettle, reorient, and reveal who we are becoming.

As the conversation unfolds, we’ll have the chance to reflect on thresholds we’ve encountered—invited or uninvited—and see what questions, insights, or surprises emerge together.

We’re excited to launch the William Black Lodge Conversation Series—a series of intimate gatherings bringing together multi-faceted perspectives for thoughtful exploration and reflection on themes of transformation and renewal, both personal and collective.

The inaugural series taking place in January 2026 explores the theme of Thresholds.

Each evening will take place in one of the Lodge’s warm, welcoming spaces and will begin with a brief 10–15 minute exchange between our featured guest and a conversation host. From there, the conversation with the featured guest, supported by the host, expands into a shared opportunity for participants to reflect and contribute. These informal, 90-minute evenings open up space for curiosity, openness, and meaningful conversation grounded in lived experience and shared inquiry.
