King of Ragtime - Reading and Music with Steve Costanza

Stephen Costanza is the author and illustrator of many acclaimed picture books for children; his newest illustrations grace When Auggie Learned to Play Chess by Meredith Rusu, just out this September! His acclaimed King of Ragtime, The Story of Scott Joplin will be the feature of his Monson library presentation - where he will share the process of writing and creating a picture book based on a favorite musician, discuss his inspiration and research, and display multiple sketches and sketchbooks for the audience to see. Steven will also play several Joplin ragtime tunes on piano. Costanza's work has been recognized by the Bologna Book Fair, Society of Illustrators and the Maine Library Association. He is a frequent visitor to schools and libraries, sharing his experience as a writer, illustrator and piano player.


He lives and works on North Haven, an island in Penobscot Bay, Maine.
