NATURE MONCTON MEETING PRESENTATION
Date: September 16, 2025, at 7:00 PM
Place: Mapleton Rotary Lodge
Presenter: Nelson Poirier
Wild Mushrooms
Mushrooms always seem to attract the attention of naturalists, especially in fall as nights cool. September and October usually are the prime months for these gems to appear, so this presentation is well-timed.
Nelson Poirier will delve into the magic of mushrooms: where they come from, what they’re up to, some clues to identify some of the common ones, especially those incredible edibles, as well as ones to avoid and why.
Those who attend the meeting are asked to participate by gathering specimens up to 5 days in advance, and we will set up show-and-tell tables where specimens can be identified and discussed. Try to gather fresh specimens where possible. Place them in a paper bag or with damp moss in a flat container. Label the container “Do Not Eat” with a large felt marker and put it in the refrigerator. Do not store them in plastic bags. The collections brought in will be an important part of the event as we will get to see a much greater variety of specimens this way than on an outing to just one habitat.
As always, all are welcome, Nature Moncton member or not. Just bring your enthusiasm and mushrooms! For those who cannot make it in person, this presentation will also be available on Zoom at the following link:
